Conviviality

Hello Roses, and happy Monday!

The late great Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) was not only an actor but also a well-regarded wine maker. He argued there was something unique about wine that encourages conviviality. Literally meaning “life together,” conviviality is the act of sharing in the joys and sorrows of life with others, welcoming one another, being hospitable, safe, and friendly. It’s the warmth we feel on those nights where we want to share just one more glass, the nights that end a bit later than we intended but still too soon.

A number of weeks ago Elizabeth and I had a lovely time sharing wine late into the night with a group of friends. This follows on the heels of recent travel to Walla Walla for a wine conference and to Indianapolis to visit friends and family. At each turn we found ourselves sharing in long conversation and warm hospitality, sometimes with those closest to us, at other times with complete strangers. There really is something unique about wine that brings people together and invigorates heart and mind. Conviviality.

Our industry can be hard sometimes. Wine business pundits prophesy the apocalypse. Vineyards fail, contracts are broken, wine sours. Nevertheless we open another bottle and press on. We do it because wine is magical and sacramental and it is a blessing to all those evenings we get to spend with each other.

There is some hard and boring work happening behind the scenes to get ready for next year’s wines. I hope you’ll consider joining, upgrading, or sharing our amazing wine club with friends. Noblemen’s Society club members enjoy their discount on all wines at both stores, which is pretty significant for a club with no monthly commitment.

Peace,

Victor
